Practice, Practice, Practice

First and foremost, practice! The more you practice the better you’ll get. Find a pickleball court near you or set one up in your backyard. There are plenty of online resources and tutorials to help improve your game.

Work on your Reflexes

You can do this by doing drills such as “quick feet” or playing against a wall. Exercise regularly and stay hydrated to ensure your muscles are in tip-top shape for pickleball. We found the following video outlining pickleball reflex drills helpful:

Master your Skills

Developing a solid foundation of technique and strategy can make you nearly unstoppable! Start by mastering the basics, like proper grip, footwork, and shot selection. As you progress, be sure to incorporate more advanced techniques such as spin serves and dinks. Consider investing in a portable net. We recently purchased a portable net which we often set up in our garage allowing us to work on our short game skills. It's been a game changer!

 Equipment Matters

Make sure you're using the right equipment for pickleball. It's no secret that having good-quality rackets, balls, and other gear can really help you. Look for equipment that's suited to your playing style and level. A well-crafted racket will give you the edge over your friends, allowing you to get the most out of every shot.  Stay Focused

It's important to stay focused and positive during the game. Pickleball can be a mental game as well as a physical one, so keep your head in the game and don't let yourself get distracted. Focus on each shot and make sure you're playing with confidence. Don't let your opponents' shots get to you or make you doubt yourself.

Be Smart

Winning in pickleball isn't just about playing hard and hitting the ball as hard as you can. You need to be smart about where you place the ball and when to hit it. Strategically positioning your shots is key -- aim for the places on the court that will give your opponent the least chance to return your shot. Pay attention to where they are on the court and try to place your shots so that they have a difficult time hitting them back.

Conclusion

So there you have it - this is how to beat your pickleball friends and take your game to the next level! Remember, practice makes perfect. Try out some of these techniques during your next match and watch as you become a pickleball master! Who knows? You may even be able to teach your friends some of what you've learned! Until then, happy pickling. Good luck!
